Serves 4-6

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 25 minutes

  • 400-500g green beans
  • 100g button/cremini mushrooms
  • 4 tbsp Hakka-ish Chili Crisp
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil/butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • 250ml half & half cream
  • 50g crackers/breadcrumbs
  • 50g mature cheddar cheese

  1. Slice the mushrooms, and remove the stem end of the green beans.
  2. Heat a pan over a medium-high heat. Add the oil or butter, and then the mushrooms. Cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently, and then add the flour. Cook for a further 2 minutes, and then add the cream slowly while stirring to prevent lumps from being formed.
  3. Bring to a boil, and add the green beans. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until just starting to soften. Add a sprinkle of salt to taste.
  4. While the green beans cook, make the breading. If using crackers, crush in a bag until they’re similar in consistency to breadcrumbs. Grate the cheese, and add to the breading, and then add half of the Hakka-ish.
  5. Sprinkle the breading over the green beans, and place under a preheated broiler, or in an oven preheated to 430f. Cook for a few minutes until the breading is bubbling, and golden brown.
  6. Serve, topped with the remaining Hakka-ish
