Serves 2
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
-
2x steaks (we used 10oz strip steaks, but used whatever steak you prefer)
-
Salt to taste
-
1 tbsp cooking oil
-
1 tbsp butter
-
1 shallot (chopped)
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
1oz whisky or brandy (optional)
-
1 stalk of rosemary
-
¼ cup heavy cream
Method:
-
Heat a heavy based pan over a high heat, add the oil, season your steaks with salt and cook to your desired doneness. Set aside to rest.
-
While the steak rests, make the pan sauce. Drain any remaining oil from the pan, and add the butter. Add the shallots and rosemary, and cook over a high heat for approx 30 seconds, until the shallots start to soften.
-
If using the whisky/brandy, add to the pan (make sure you have adequate space on your stove for the alcohol to burn), otherwise add a splash of water to deglaze.
-
Add the cream and Ooomami, and allow to thicken slightly.
-
To serve, slice the steak, and pour the umami-rich sauce on top. Serve with whatever starch and veggies you like, we served it with this umami packed potato salad.
